Awakening to Happiness: Cultivating the Capacity to Respond to Life with Joy, Gratitude & Resilience
3-Day Mindfulness Retreat in the Tradition
of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh
With Dharma Teacher Chu Chan Huy, True Radiance, who received Lamp Transmission directly from Thich Nhat Hanh in 1994.
Friday, October 19 (8 AM) - Sunday, October 21 (through lunch)
Kearns Spirituality Center, 9000 Babcock Boulevard, Allison Park, Pennsylvania 15101
There are times in our lives when happiness eludes us, perhaps we feel burdened by sorrow or responsibility, perhaps we doubt ourselves or struggle to stay positive amid stressful times. According to Vietnamese Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, “we can condition our bodies and minds to happiness with the five practices of letting go, inviting positive seeds, mindfulness, concentration, and insight.”
On this retreat, we will practice mindfulness in order to get in touch with the joy and happiness that are available in every moment. By practicing conscious breathing, walking meditation and observing noble silence, we develop gratitude for the richness of life unfolding within and around us. Daily meditations help us let go of anxiety-producing inner monologues and open ourselves to more relaxed and refreshing ways of moving through the day. Daily talks by dharma teacher Chu Chan Huy and activities led by experienced meditators deepen our understanding and appreciation of these powerful and ancient teachings. Small group discussions and one-on-one mentoring provide opportunities for individual counseling and personal growth. By practicing together with warmth, fellowship and compassion, the retreat provides a unique environment for watering the seeds of happiness in ourselves and one another, the first step in cultivating happiness in our friends, families and communities.
